The Farmers Union Story

Farmers Union began in Raines County Texas, in 1902 as a grass-roots farm organization insisting on parity for their crops and a need for a fire and casualty company to protect the farmer’s investment of long hours of hard work.

In 1904 a chapter was formed in Nashville, Arkansas, and the Arkansas Farmers Union came into existence. Over a century later, Farmers Union is still a major voice speaking for the nations farmers and property owners.

It was in 1934 that the Arkansas Farmers Union turned their attention to low-cost, effective fire and extended coverage for their member’s farm property. During the years of the “Great Depression” it was important to have such protection. The result of this need was the organization of Farmers Union Mutual Insurance Company, which continues to serve both rural and urban Arkansans today.
